All-American defensive end Aaron "Project Mayhem" Maybin is NFL Draft bound. pennstate.scout.com/2/828762.htmlCan't blame the kid - he probably got his draft ratings back, and everything is falling in line with the #10 ranking he's been seeing by the pundits. I was hoping he'd stay around, seeing how he's still a bit undersized for DE (might be moved to OLB in the NFL). And this season has been his only season. But everyone likes what they see, so young man - take the money and run. Maurice Evans and Navarro Bowman put out requests for their draft analysis. They have until Tuesday to make their decision to declare for the draft.

At face value, it's more bad than good. We're losing all 4 starters: Tony Davis, Lydell Sargent, Mark Rubin, Anthony Scirrotto.
Returning players with meaningful experience include: A.J. Wallace (great talent, but has yet to put it all together in 3 years), Knowledge Timmons (limited experience at best), and Drew Astorino (played very well as a redshirt freshman this year).
The others that could see time include D'Anton Lynn (true frosh this season, and highly recruited), Nick Sukay, and Cedric Jeffries.
Possibly switching to DB include WR Chaz Powell (was a DB before we moved him to WR this season), or possibly one of or LBs (looking more at Mike Mauti or Nate Stupar).
And then there's the incoming class of good recruits - Gerald Hodges, Darrell Givens, and Derrick Thomas. While not likely (well documented that JoePa strays from using/starting true freshman unless completely necessary), they all could have a chance to see the field at some point.
Summary statement - there's a lot of new faces and not a lot of experience in the secondary next season. Doesn't mean they'll be bad, but the front seven (or eight, or ten...) might need to be big playmakers to help with the issues in the back.

...ok, it's official again... blog.pennlive.com/patriotnewssports/2009/01/maybin_to_announce_for_nfl_on.htmlHe's officially announcing he's going into the draft. Right after he goes to his high school and gives his motivational speech - "The Sour Truth about Lemon Parties". I hear it's a stirring speech. Downside is that it looks like he's taking a friend to the NFL - www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/01/sources-two-psu-underclassmen-to-declare/. Sure MoEvans sandbagged missed a few games and seemingly sandbagged the rest of the season (perhaps from one too many late nite munchie runs). But he's still a solid DE with experience. Now the top two DE's are gone, which is going to force us to fill a few more holes. On the plus side, DE is one of the few positions we can lose starters and still be ready to reload for next season.

Still official with Maybin. Curious about MoEvans: ericthomas.wordpress.com/2009/01/15/mo-evans-anyone/So, we're still not sure if he's declared or not (sounds like Bowman and Odrick will be back next year - basically going with the 'no news is good news' mantra). As one person put it, "He's probably high as a kite in his room, watching South Park and eating Ho-Hos. He'll emerge in March and wonder what he missed..."
