Oh yeah...that thing...
Well, it's New Year's Eve, so I'll be forced to summarize. Both teams have tough defenses; both teams have talented, if inconsistent, offenses; both play in mediocre-to-poor conferences. But at the end of the day, we are much more disciplined (USC finds themselves with many penalties) and JoePa is one of the best at preping a team for the bowl game. (Hell, Morelli's best game was the 2006 Outback Bowl against Tennessee.)
There are a lot of seniors who will be putting everything they have into this game. And the fact that we won't be trying to "not lose" this game, but rather go for the win outright, will be a huge factor in play-calling and energy. I expect another "slow" start on offense, but when everything gets rolling, the entire team will be rolling together. D-Will brings the Roses home to Happy Valley - 23-17.
And because it made me laugh, one of the best lines I read today from an open thread for the Sun Bowl (Oregon State vs Pitt - OSU won, 3-0):
"Over 75000 people joined together during halftime at the Sun Bowl to sing the Village People’s “YMCA” to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the “Gayest Thing Ever”. After setting the record, it was immediately broken by Pitt trying to play football"

So... heh heh... there's that whole "playing for a full four quarters" thing that we apparently missed...
Is the 38-24 a good representation of the full game? Probably not, but it's not far off. Ultimately, Penn State played it's worst quarter of football at the worst possible time. At no point during the season had the team made so many careless mistakes with dumb penalties, missed opportunities, and turnovers. And of all teams to be that sloppy, USC is one of the last you want to be giving the opportunity to. They'll run you up and down that field all day, and guess what - that's exactly how the second quarter went.
However, I'm not going to count out our 24 points. Let's be honest - that second half is what Nittany Lion football is all about. Never giving up, never slowing down, never quitting no matter what the score, no matter who the opponent. USC started getting sloppy and lackadaisical on both sides of the ball, and we continued to fight. Too little, too late - sure. But I'll be damned if I ever see a JoePa team just roll over without a fight to the end.
USC can do all the dancing they want. Penn State showed it's pride and respect for the game. And that's what this program will always be centered upon.
Sadly, this group of seniors was unable to ride this amazing 4-year run out into the sunset as they should have. But there's little doubt that Derrick Williams and crew have been the backbone of the return of Penn State to National Prominence.

USC is a bunch of cocky worthless sons of bitches.
That fucking dancing on the sidelines in the 2nd quarter is ridiculous, and a respectable coach does not let his players do that.
That's a disgrace.
