For your enjoyment - ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2008/10/02/pickin-on-the-big-ten-week-6/. At the very least, read the caption to the picture at the top, and the link in that caption (concerning the motorized vehicle) - gave me a good chuckle at work.
People are calling this a possible trap game. I think the boys will be more concerned with proving to the doubters/concerned that they can be poised and roll on the road against a worthwhile opponent.
Well...kinda worthwhile. Not to say Purdue is bad - they took Oregon to OT earlier this season. Then struggled against two decent opponents, beating Central Michigan (down to the wire) and losing to the golden domers last weekend (close early, not so much late). And the stats are there - one of the worst rush/scoring/overall defenses in the Big Ten. Their offense shows signs of life before it struggles mightily and sputters to the end.
That said, the Penn State offense is going to have to show it can play on the road in a semi-hostile environment. (Heck - most people overlook the fact that we actually went to Syracuse for that game.) Luckily, everything stacks up again nicely for us - a struggling team with a week run defense. Could we have gotten any more lucky at this scheduling thing? The only thing that the defense will have to be wary of is slowing down from the high octane Illinois offense - no worries about Curtiss Painter running the option here. The secondary will be tested, as they pass the ball very well. But I think this will be another huge step for our d-line, as Evans and Koroma will be able to get into a real rhythm on the pass rush this week.
This one will likely start being a runaway late in the first half, and it'll just ugly by the second half - State wins, 48-17.
