Now this used to be a real rivalry (tinyurl.com/49wkwx). No really - like a REAL rivalry (tinyurl.com/3pvvhm). Of course, much of this is lost on many of the students over the past decade and a half. And lets be honest - rivalries like Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers, West Virginia, and even Maryland make a bit more sense than Ohio State and Michigan. And it's one of those things where I'd love to see some of these old rivalries renewed like this - even if it's just a two year, home-and-home set. Bring Rutgers and WVU in for a couple of years. Heck - I'll take Pitt with all their below-mediocrity and the like.
And there was a chance this rivalry could have been renewed. You know, if Syracuse didn't completely suck.
We're not talking like, "Decent team, tough conference/schedule" suck. No, we're talking, "Blowout losses to Northwestern and Akron to start the season" suck. A team that will be tested by FCS Northeastern next week - a game where the loser will have the remainder of their schedule wiped out, and be forced to play only Canadian high schools teams. Of female cheerleaders.
The thought of "overlooking" an opponent is likely out the window - we walked over CCU with Oregon State in view. Something tells me that Temple won't scare us as much as OSU did. Not to mention the thinning/weak defense is still looking to prove that they aren't as vulnerable as people make them out to be.
As for the offense, well, they just need to hand the ball off all day. Syracuse has allowed 243.5 yards per game on the ground thus far. It's not going to be fair.
As for the final score, well, that will always depend on what JoePa decides to do and when. Will Clark and some of the other starters even see a snap in the second half? No matter how you slice it, it's going to be a roll. Penn State 52, Syracuse 10
