After quite an illustrious career Scott Eyre decided to hang up the cleats. The wonderful south paw has decided to retire.
The Phils had offered him a minor league contract to come back for this coming season. He declined. In a phone interview with MLB.com he expressed his thoughts. He liked his time in Philly. So much so that he said he would play there or retire. Well does look like he will be playing there. It has been said he is enjoying spending time with his family. He told MLB that even if the Phillies had offered him a major league contract he does not believe he would have taken it.
Scotty, you definitely will be missed.

Also read that Eyre felt the Phillies clubhouse was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, clubhouse atmosphere's in the league. Sad to see him go, but glad that he's retiring on more positive note (back-to-back WS's, one ring - ain't too shabby).
He also might not want to leave his phone too far away - wouldn't be surprised if the front office gives him a call at some point should the bullpen become filled with injuries.

O, I totally agree. That phone should not be far away from reach. He was such a solid reliever last year. However, I am always in belief that relievers are year to year. Many times they are good one year they are average the next. Either way that bullpen needs help!
