Well we last left the baseball season with brad lidge falling to the ground and a huge pile of phillies jumping on top of him. I still have issues believing it happened. However, it did, and everything was amazing. I will remember that week/weekend for the rest of the time I am living. That win did a lot of wonders for my spirit.
However, a new season is about to be upon us. It is time to defend the trophy. Now I could sit here and be a homer and tell you the phitans will do it again. Who knows what they are capable of doing. There are a few things to look at from last season. One is they kind of steered away from the injury bug. They had rollins down for a little and shane down for a little. Pitching wise, we stayed pretty healthy. Knock on wood. Brad Lidge was perfect. Both are very hard to do in a season. But no one can accurately predict what a season will hold. See the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers. You have to play the game. Stats and predictions are based on what is on paper half the time. This is why nothing seems to go to plan.
So here are my predictions. Maybe with a little description or thought process later.
NL East standings
Phillies/Mets
Braves
Marlins
Nationals
Now that being said. I believe there is a good chance that the Phils and Mets could both make the playoffs. Reasons: one they are both good teams. Unless the Mets do their normal of its September I dont remember how to play again. The West is the west, anyone who follows baseball knows the west is normally not a big power house. Things could surprise you again. I think since the Brewers lost CC and maybe even Sheets they do not have the pitching. The Cubs will win and choke in the playoffs liek they do every year. The Cardinals will be the only other real threat from the central IMO. Now the one thing that could hurt the phillies or mets is that this division seems to get better every year. The Braves just made the pitching staff better. Did we really think the Braves would stay down for too long. I just do not know if they have the bats. The Marlins will always fool people. They have a young and growing team. I believe this could be a four team race for a while. The Marlins did compete with the phils for the most runs and hrs last year. Now the Nationals are actually trying to pull up in the stack. But who are we kidding ourselves, until they at least finish 2nd or 3rd they are still the Expos haha. Which brings me to the damn muts. They have still a nice team. However, they did improve. They seemed to fix the problem they had last year. Their bullpen. They technically have two closers at the back of their bullpen. Krod in the 9th and putz in the 8th. Now the scary thing is they could get wagner back before the end of the season, somewhere in august if they are lucky. the back of their bullpen would be wagner, putz, krod. not too shabby. there offense is still the same. two things to look out for is castillo might not be able to keep his job as the starting second basemen and they may have a kid playing left field names murphy by the end of the season. I really believe this season will come down to the injury bug.
Phillies Muts
Starting 8 >
Pitchign Rotation < (we'll see what moyer and blanton do)
Bullpen =
Bench >
That is how i see it. Now i could be wrong or someone may have different opinion. Let me know what you think.
I may have more later.
PITCHERS AND CATCHERS ARE IN CLEARWATER TOMORROW!!!!!!
WOOOOO BASEBAAAAAALLLLLLL!
